About the Division

Dr. Anna Mae DiehlWelcome

Our vision begins and ends with outstanding patient care. At Duke, it is standard practice to provide state-of-the-art diagnostic procedures and treatments for diseases of the esophagus, stomach, intestines, colon, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas and liver. In addition, we believe it is our job to advance current clinical practice beyond today's gold standards in these areas. To achieve this goal, we aim to be at the forefront of research in digestive and liver diseases.

Our division faculty includes some of the world authorities in these areas. We have active basic and clinical research programs pertinent to most of the major gastrointestinal and liver diseases, including colon cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer, Barrett's esophagus, viral hepatitis, drug-induced liver disease, and alcoholic and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. For more information on our research, please visit our Clinical Trials page on our website.

Finally, continued excellence in patient care mandates training future generations of gastroenterologists. The Duke GI Division has a certified fellowship program in clinical gastroenterology, as well as an NIH-supported T32 research fellowship program. We also provide advanced training in therapeutic endoscopy and health outcomes research in digestive diseases.

The combined excellence in our clinical, research and training programs has earned our Division a place among the top 10 GI Divisions in the country. We are proud of our accomplishments and continue to strive for excellence in each of these endeavors that are so important for improving the health of patients with gastrointestinal and liver diseases.
