Clinical Programs at Duke Division of Gastroenterology
Biliary and Pancreas Service: Officially known as the Hepatopancreato-Biliary (HPB) Diseases Service, this program offers consultation by regionally and nationally recognized experts for patients with biliary and pancreatic disorders and includes a multidisciplinary approach with Duke Surgery, Radiology and Oncology. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) are particular areas of expertise within the Biliary Service, with physicians performing approximately 2000 procedures each year.
Disorders of the Esophagus: Esophageal manometry and ambulatory pH monitoring including capsule pH (Bravo®) studies for patients with swallowing disorders and gastroesophageal reflux are available at the Duke GI Manometry Laboratory. We are involved with new endoscopic techniques for the treatment of both esophageal reflux as well as the pre-malignant condition of Barrett’s esophagus. Our faculty is recognized for expertise in the management of esophageal cancer including esophageal stent placement and photodynamic therapy (PDT) and work closely with our surgical colleagues at Duke who are recognized leaders in the surgical treatment of esophageal diseases including newer laparoscopic techniques.
Disorders of the Stomach, Small Intestine, and Colon: Duke’s GI service has a particular interest in colon cancer screening and prevention. The multidisciplinary approach combines endoscopy, general surgery, oncology and endosurgery to offer comprehensive medical care. Our general gastroenterology clinic cares for a wide range of patients with gastrointestinal disorders ranging from acid-peptic diseases to functional GI disorders.
