Preparation
Why do I have to drink this preparation?
The colon needs to be
cleansed before it can be examined. A preparation that is not optimal
will not allow for a good exam and it may need to be repeated. This is
why it's important that you follow the instructions given to you

If you do not have the
prescription, please call 684-1817. We will call your pharmacy with
another prescription
Can I change this preparation for another type?
Yes, you can change
the type of preparation. However, it will have to be done on a
case-by-case basis and you will need to contact your doctor ahead of time.
When do I need to start the preparation?
Most people need to
start the preparation the day before the procedure.
For some people,
including persons who are usually constipated, will need to start two
days in advance by ingesting only clear liquids for two days and taking milk of
magnesia or other laxative (like Senokot 2 tablets once before bedtime) 2 days
before the procedure.
What if I have nausea or vomit?
You may slow down the
pace of dinking the preparation. If you have a lot of vomiting, please
call the GI physician on call and another type of preparation may be called to
your pharmacy
Can I take my routine medications on the day of the procedure?
Yes, please take all
your medications, except if you are a diabetic (please see the next paragraph)
You will need to stop all
blood thinners and aspirin (and aspirin-related products, like Motrin, Advil,
etc) 5 days before the procedure. Please TALK TO YOUR PRIMARY CARE
DOCTOR OR CARDIOLOGIST to make sure that this is safe.
We recommend that you do
not take iron pill for 7 days before the procedure
